Kõne edastamine koos ajavormi- ja perspektiivimuutustega (edasijõudnud kaudne kõne)
B2Kõne edastamine koos ajavormi- ja perspektiivimuutustega (edasijõudnud reported speech)
Mis on kaudne kõne (reported/indirect speech)?
Kaudne kõne (reported speech või indirect speech) on viis, kuidas keelekasutaja edasi annab, mida keegi teine on öelnud, ilma otseseid jutumärke kasutamata. Näiteks: otsekõne: "I live in London," she said. Kaudne: She said (that) she lived in London.
OTSIENE vs KAUDNE (lühidalt):
- Otsene kõne: kasutab jutumärke ja sõnasõnalist tsitaati. ("I am tired.")
- Kaudne kõne: parafraseerib, muutes vajadusel ajavorme, asesõnu ja näitavaid sõnu. (He said (that) he was tired.)
Näide: Direct: "I will help you tomorrow," he said. Reported: He said (that) he would help me the next day.
Põhireegel: ajavormide tagasinihutus (backshifting)
Kui kõne edastatakse lauses, kus rääkiva tegusõna on minevikus (nt said, told, asked), siis tavaliselt nihutatakse otsese kõne ajavorme sammu võrra tagasi (backshift). See on inglise reported speech põhireegel.
Tüüpilised teisendused (Direct → Reported):
- Present Simple → Past Simple
- "I live in London," → He said (that) he lived in London.
- Present Continuous → Past Continuous

- May → might
- "I may come," → He said he might come.

Märkus: Kui algne lause kasutab juba minevikuvormi (nt past perfect, would, could), siis neid vorme ei nihutata edasi: "I had left" → He said he had left (ei muutu).
Näited eri ajavormidest koos otse- ja kaudse kõnega
- Present Simple
- Direct: "I work every day," she said.
- Reported: She said (that) she worked every day.
- Eesti selgitus: Inglise edastamisel nihkub present simple past simple'iks.
- Past Simple
- Direct: "I bought a book yesterday," he said.
- Reported: He said (that) he had bought a book the day before.
- Future (will)
- Direct: "I'll help you," she said.
- Reported: She said (that) she would help me.
- Present Perfect
- Direct: "I have finished my homework," he said.
- Reported: He said he had finished his homework.
Isikuvormide, asesõnade ja näitavate sõnade muutused
Kaudses kõnes pead kohandama asesõnu ja sõnu nagu this/that, here/there, now/then, today/the day, yesterday/the day before jne.
Tüüpilised muutused:
- I → he/she
- we → they (või we, sõltuvalt kontekstist)
- you → I/he/she/they (sõltub sellest, kellele räägiti)
- my → his/her
- our → their
- this → that
- these → those
- here → there
- now → then
- today → that day
- yesterday → the day before / the previous day
- tomorrow → the next day / the following day
- ago → before
Näide:
- Direct: "I can't find my keys here," John said.
- Reported: John said (that) he couldn't find his keys there.
Küsimused (yes/no ja wh- küsimused)
Üldküsimused (yes/no):
- Eemalda pöörd-abisõna-inversioon ja kasuta if/whether.
- Direct: "Are you coming?" she asked.
- Reported: She asked if/whether I was coming.
- Tõlge: "Kas sa tuled?" → "Ta küsis, kas ma olin tulemas."
Wh-küsimused (what, where, when, why, who, how):
- Säilita wh-sõna ja eemalda abiabsoluut-inversioon.
- Direct: "Where have you been?" he asked.
- Reported: He asked where I had been.
- Tõlge: "Kuhu sa olid läinud?" → "Ta küsis, kuhu ma olin läinud."
Küsimus 'if' vs 'whether':
- Mõlemad on enamasti sobivad; "whether" on formaalsem ja parem, kui lause jätkub või kui on kaks varianti.
Käsklused, palved ja ettepanekud
Käsku või palvet edastades kasutatakse sageli konstruktsiooni tell/ask + (someone) + to + infinitive. Mõned verbid nõuavad eristruktuure (warn, advise, order jne.).
- Imperatiiv → to-infinitive
- Direct: "Close the door!" he said.
- Reported: He told me to close the door. (või He ordered me to close the door.)
- Tõlge: "Sulge uks!" → "Ta käskis mul ukse sulgeda."
- Keellised imperatiivid (not):
- Direct: "Don't be late," she said.
- Reported: She told him not to be late. / She warned him not to be late.
- Palve vs küsiv toon:
- Direct: "Could you help me?" she asked.
- Reported: She asked if I could help her. / She asked me to help her. (mõlemad on võimalikud; teine rõhutab tegevuse soovi)
- "Let's" → suggested / proposed
- Direct: "Let's go to the park," he said.
- Reported: He suggested that we (should) go to the park. / He suggested going to the park.
Modaalverbid (modal verbs) ja erijuhud
Tüüpilised muutused:
- can → could
- may → might
- will → would
- shall → should
- must → had to (kohustus) või must jääb (loogiline järeldus)
- should → should (enamasti ei muutu)
- could/might → jäävad samaks, kui need olid juba minevikus
Näited:
- Direct: "I can finish it by Friday," she said.
- Reported: She said she could finish it by Friday.
- Direct: "You must see a doctor," he said. (nõuanne/kohustus)
- Reported: He said I had to see a doctor. (või He told me to see a doctor.)
Erijuhud:
- "Must" kui loogiline oletus ei pruugi alati muutuda: "He must be at home," → He said he must be at home. (kontekst määrab)
- Perfect modalid (must have / might have / could have) võivad jääda muutmata, sest need juba viitavad minevikule: "She must have left" → He said she must have left.
Tingimuslaused (conditionals) ja reported speech
Tingimuslausete aegade muutmine sõltub algsest tingimusest ja sellest, kas toimub tagasi nihutamine.
- Zero conditional (üldtõed): sageli ei muutu.
- Direct: "If you heat water, it boils," he said.
- Reported: He said that if you heat water, it boils. (võib ka: he said that if you heated water, it boiled.)
- First conditional (reaalne tulevik): will → would
- Direct: "If I pass the exam, I will celebrate," she said.
- Reported: She said that if she passed the exam, she would celebrate.
- Second conditional (tõenäoline vähe): vahel jääb samaks
- Direct: "If I won the lottery, I would travel the world," he said.
- Reported: He said that if he won the lottery, he would travel the world. (ei pruugi muutuda)
- Third conditional (minevik): säilita past perfect / would have
- Direct: "If I had known, I would have told you," she said.
- Reported: She said that if she had known, she would have told me. (enamasti ei muutu)
Soovitused, ettepanekud, nõudmised (subjunctive ja should)
Mõned verbid (suggest, recommend, demand, insist, propose) võivad võtta kas subjunktiivi (st base verb ilma "should") või konstruktsiooni "that + should + base verb". Erinevus on peamiselt stiililine (subjunktiiv on formaalsem ja levinud ameerika inglise keeles).
- Direct: "I suggest that he leave now," she said.
- Reported: She suggested that he leave then. (subjunktiiv)
- Või: She suggested that he should leave then. (BrE variant)
- Direct: "They demanded, 'The money must be returned'," → Reported: They demanded that the money be returned.
Mitu tsiteeritavat tasandit (nested reporting)
Kui on tsitaat tsitaadis, nihutatakse iga sammu võrra:
- Direct: Mike said, "John said, 'I am tired.'"
- Reported (one step): Mike said that John said, "I am tired." (kui Mike ütleb praegu)
- Reported (full backshift): Mike said that John had said he was tired.
- Eesti selgitus: iga samm (sai → had said; am → was) nihkub vastavalt.
- He says, "I live in Paris." → He says (that) he lives in Paris.
- Direct: "The earth revolves around the sun," she said.
- Reported: She said that the earth revolves (or revolved) around the sun.
- Unustada pronounide muutmine: "She said to John, 'You are late.'" → Wrong: She said John was late. (õige: She told John he was late.)
- Vale ajavormi kasutamine pärast said/told: "He said he has gone" (kui backshifting vajalik): õige: He said he had gone.
- Vale muutus modaalverbide puhul (must → must vs had to) — kontrolli, kas oli kohustus või järeldus.
- Unustada muuta here/there, now/then jt.
- Jätta küsimuste pöörded (inversion) alles: "She asked, 'Where are you going?'" → Wrong: She asked where are you going. (õige: She asked where I was going.)
Praktilised näited eri tüüpidest (otsene → kaudne) – lühike koguvalik

- Reported: He suggested that she take a break. / He suggested that she should take a break.
Kokkuvõte: samm-sammuline juhend (practial checklist)
1. Vaata reporting-verbi aega (said, says, has said). Kui minevikus, mõtle backshiftingule.
2. Muuda ajavormid vastavalt tabelile (present → past, past → past perfect jne.).
3. Kohanda asesõnad ja näitavad sõnad (I → he/she, this → that, here → there jne.).
4. Küsimused: eemalda inversioon ja kasuta if/whether (yes/no), säilita wh-sõna.
5. Käsklused/palveid edasta: tell/ask + object + to-infinitive.
7. Kui lause on endiselt tõene või reporting-verb on praeguses ajas, backshifting võib olla valikuline.
Lühiglosaar
- Direct speech (otsene kõne): otsekõne jutumärkides.
- Reported/indirect speech (kaudne kõne): edastatud kõne ilma jutumärkideta.
- Backshifting: ajavormide nihutamine tagasi (present → past jne.).
- Reporting verb: tegusõna, mis märgib edastamist (say, tell, ask jne.).
- Subjunctive: tingiv meeleolu (ingl. base verb ilma -s või to), kasutatakse ettepanekutes ja nõudmistes (He insisted that she leave).
Lõppsõna
Kaudne kõne võib olla esialgu keeruline, kuid reeglid on selged: vaata reporting-verbi aega, nihuta ajavorme vajadusel, muuda asesõnu ja näitavaid sõnu ning paiguta küsimused ja käsud õigesse vormi. Harjutades muutub see automaatseks.
