Most of the modules in Lingua Fortis help you build muscle memory in your target language by showing you structured examples for you to repeat. The AI Tutor is different in that here the focus is on spontaneous production - speaking and writing in your target language without relying on prompts. It complements the rest of the app’s repetition-based training by giving you a place to practice generating language in real time, with support when you need it.

The Three Parts

The AI Tutor has three modes, each designed for a different kind of practice. You can switch between them depending on whether you want open conversation, targeted grammar work, or practical role-play.

• Freestyle Chat: Talk about any topic, adapted to your level.
• Grammar Tutor: Learn a concept, train it with repetition, then practice it with your AI Tutor.
• Scenarios (coming soon): Role-play real situations and rehearse the phrases you’ll actually need.

Freestyle Chat

Freestyle Chat lets you pick the topic. This can be anything from politics or history to everyday situations like ordering coffee. The tutor will calibrate the conversation to your current proficiency level. The goal is simple: more real output, less hesitation.

You can interact with the AI Tutor in multiple ways depending on what’s most convenient. Typing is great for precision and editing, while audio input helps you practice speaking and pronunciation. Handwriting input is a planned option for tablets.

Instantly get feedback on what you have written or said with our message correction feature. You can also listen to audiofor both your messages and the tutor’s messages to reinforce pronunciation and listening skills.

The idea here is not to replace an actual tutor or conversation partner. There is no substitute for a live conversation with a speaker of your target language. However, the AI tutor gives you a convenient and flexible way to work on your language production skills and receive feedback in a low stress environment.

Grammar Tutor

The Grammar Tutor is designed to help you move from “I understand the rule” to “I can use it reflexively in conversation.” Like all parts of Lingua Fortis, muscle memory is the ultimate goal. Topics are organized by CEFR level so you can work through grammar in a clear sequence.

Each grammar topic has three study sections. You can read an article, do an interactive lesson with the AI tutor, and do repetition training with example sentences.

First, you read a short grammar article in your target language so the concept is explained clearly in context.

Next, you train the concept into muscle memory with sentence practice. You repeat a curated set of example sentences that demonstrate the concept in real usage, so the forms start to feel natural.

Finally, you use the Grammar Tutor conversation to practice spontaneous production. The tutor quizzes you, prompts you to produce the forms on command, and then corrects mistakes. You can also use the AI tutor to clarify anything you are having trouble understanding from the article before practicing the sample sentences.

We believe that even in grammar study, repetition of examples is the most effective way to develop an ear for what sounds right and what does not in a language. Simply understanding the rule doesn't mean you will be able to apply to spontaneously in a conversation. Lingua Fortis bridges the gap so you can move from understanding -> internalization -> instinctive use of these grammar concepts.

Scenarios (Coming Soon)

Scenarios are designed for the moments where you know what you want to do, but you don’t want to pause and search for the idiomatic phrasing. They focus on practical, high-frequency situations—travel, daily life, errands—where smooth language matters.

The scenarios module starts with doing repetition practice of a series of phrases relevant to the situation. You can practice these as many times as you need and return to them later. Then you can put what you learn into practice by having a conversation where you role play in the scenario with your AI Tutor.

Examples include hotel check-in and reservation issues, ordering food and making requests, asking for directions, dealing with bureaucracy, and everyday small talk.
