"I live in London," she said.
Reported speech (netiešā runa):
She said (that) she lived in London.
( tulkojums: Tiešā runa: "Es dzīvoju Londonā," viņa teica. Netiešā runa: Viņa teica, ka viņa dzīvoja Londonā.)
Kad jāmaina laiki un perspektīva?
Pamatrullis: ja ziņošanas darbības vārds ir pagātnē (piem., said, told, asked), bieži vien laiki jāpārbīda atpakaļ (backshift).
He said, "I am tired." -> He said (that) he was tired.
( Viņš teica: "Es esmu noguris." -> Viņš teica, ka viņš bija noguris.)
He says, "I am tired." -> He says (that) he is tired.
- can -> could
- may -> might
Direct: "I may come." -> Reported: She said (that) she might come.
( "Iespējams, ka es nākšu." -> Viņa teica, ka varbūt nāks.)
- must (obligation) -> had to
Direct: "You must finish this today." -> Reported: He said (that) I had to finish it that day.
( "Tev jāizdara tas šodien." -> Viņš teica, ka man bija jāpabeidz tas tajā dienā.)
Piezīme: ja must izsaka secinājumu (deduction), tas dažkārt var palikt must: "She must be at home" -> He said she must be at home.
now -> then
today -> that day
tonight -> that night
tomorrow -> the next day / the following day
yesterday -> the day before / the previous day
ago -> before
this -> that
these -> those
here -> there
next week -> the following week
last week -> the week before / the previous week
Piemēri:
Direct: "I will see you tomorrow," she said.
Reported: She said (that) she would see me the next day.
( "Es redzēšu tevi rīt." -> Viņa teica, ka viņa mani redzēs nākamajā dienā.)
Direct: "Come here now," he said.
Reported: He told me to come there then. (parasti: He told me to come there.)
( "Nāc šeit tagad." -> Viņš man teica, lai es nāku tur tad.)
Jautājumi netiešajā runā
Yes/No jautājumi:
Yes/No jautājumiem netiešajā runā izmanto if vai whether, saglabājot teikuma kārtību (subjekts + darbības vārds).
Direct: "Did you finish the work?" he asked.
Reported: He asked me if I had finished the work.
( "Vai tu pabeidzi darbu?" viņš jautāja. -> Viņš jautāja man, vai es biju pabeidzis darbu.)
Wh-jautājumi:
Wh-vārdus (what, where, when, why, who, how) atstāj, bet maina vārdu kārtību uz pamatteikuma (S+V).
Direct: "Where do you live?" she asked.
Reported: She asked where I lived.
( "Kur tu dzīvo?" -> Viņa jautāja, kur es dzīvoju.)
Netiešās jautājumu formas ar lūgumiem/ piedāvājumiem:
Direct: "Could you help me?" he asked.
Reported: He asked me to help him. (vai: He asked if I could help him.)
( "Vai tu vari man palīdzēt?" -> Viņš lūdza, vai es varu viņam palīdzēt; biežāk: He asked me to help him.)
Piezīme: jautājumu kārtība (Did you...?) netiek saglabāta; pareizi ir: He asked if I had done it. Nepareizi: He asked if did I do it.
Pavēles, lūgumi, ieteikumi un piedāvājumi
Imperatīvi (pavēles):
Lielākā daļa imperatīvu tiek pārveidoti uz to-infinitīvu, izmantojot tell/order/ask utt.
Direct: "Close the door!" -> He told me to close the door.
( "Aizver durvis!" -> Viņš man teica aizvērt durvis.)
Direct: "Don't be late!" -> She told me not to be late.
( "Nē, nepiedzīvo kavēšanos!" -> Viņa man teica, lai es neesmu kavējos.)
Ieteikumi / priekšlikumi:
Direct: "Let's go to the cinema," she said.
Reported: She suggested that they should go to the cinema. (vai: She suggested going to the cinema.)
( "Aiziesim uz kino." -> Viņa ieteica, ka viņi varētu iet uz kino.)
Piedāvājumi un solījumi:
Direct: "I'll help you with that," he said.
Reported: He promised (that) he would help me with that.
( "Es tev palīdzēšu ar to." -> Viņš apsolīja, ka palīdzēs.)
Modālie vārdi (sīkāk) un izņēmumi
Daži modālie vārdi mainās, citi paliek nemainīgi atkarībā no nozīmes.
Visbiežāk:
can -> could
may -> might
will -> would
shall -> should
must (obligation) -> had to
should -> should (bieži paliek nemainīgs)
could/might/would (ja tie jau bija pagātnē vai nosacījuma formā) parasti paliek nemainīgi.
Piemēri un izņēmumi:
Direct: "You must go now." -> Reported: He said I had to go then.
Direct: "She must be at home." (secinājums) -> Reported: He said she must be at home. (var arī: he said she had to be at home — atkarīgs no runātāja skatījuma)
Specifiski darbības vārdi: say vs tell vs ask un citi reporting verbs
say
- lieto vispārīgi. Var izmantot ar that-clause vai with to-person: He said (that) ... / He said to me, "...".
tell
- prasa objektu: tell somebody that ... / He told me (that) ...
ask
- jautājumos un lūgumos: He asked me if/whether ... / He asked me to ...
citi bieži verbs: advise, recommend, warn, remind, apologize, promise, refuse, admit, deny, suggest, insist, recommend, explain, accuse.
Katram no šiem parasti ir savas formas:
- advise / remind / warn + object + to-infinitive: He advised me to see a doctor.
- suggest + -ing / that + subjunctive / should: She suggested going out. / She suggested that we should go out.
- promise / refuse + to-infinitive or that-clause: He promised to help. / He promised that he would help.
- admit / deny + -ing or that + clause: He admitted stealing the money. / He admitted that he had stolen the money.
Piemēri:
Direct: "See a doctor," the nurse said.
Reported: The nurse advised me to see a doctor.
( "Apciemo ārstu." -> Māsa ieteica man apmeklēt ārstu.)
Direct: "I didn't take the money," he said.
Reported: He denied taking the money. (vai: He denied that he had taken the money.)
Direct: "Don't touch the wire," she said.
Reported: She warned me not to touch the wire.
Nosacījumi (conditionals) netiešajā runā
Conditionāļu pārvēršana prasa saglabāt sakarību starp laikiem. Galvenais: ja ziņošanas darbības vārds ir pagātnē, nākotne bieži kļūst par "would".
Type 1 (reāla situācija):
Direct: "If it rains, I will stay home." -> Reported: He said that if it rained he would stay home.
( "Ja līs, es palikšu mājās." -> Viņš teica, ka, ja līs, viņš paliks mājās -> netiešajā runā: if it rained he would stay home.)
Type 2 (nereāla tagadne):
Direct: "If I were rich, I would buy a house." -> Reported: He said that if he were rich he would buy a house. (subjunctive bieži saglabājas)
Type 3 (nereāla pagātne):
Direct: "If I had known, I would have helped." -> Reported: He said that if he had known he would have helped. (pagātnes perfekts parasti paliek tāds pats)
Piezīme: ja kondicionālis ir vispārīga patiesība, laiku maiņa nav obligāta.
Lielākas shēmas / vairāku runu slāņi (chain reporting)
Ja kāds citē citu, jāievēro secība un jāpārceļ laiki attiecīgi katrā līmenī.
Direct: John said, "Mary said, 'I'll come tomorrow.'"
Reported: John said that Mary had said she would come the next day.
( "John teica: 'Mary teica: "Es nākšu rīt."'" -> John teica, ka Mary bija teikusi, ka viņa nāks nākamajā dienā.)
Netiešā runa bez laiku maiņas un citi izņēmumi
Laiku maiņa nav obligāta, ja:
- ziņošanas darbības vārds ir tagadne (says),
- teiktais attiecas uz vispārēju patiesību vai faktiem,
- runātājs īpaši akcentē, ka apgalvojums joprojām ir patiess.
Piemēri:
Direct: "Water boils at 100°C," he said.
Reported: He said that water boils at 100°C. (var arī: He said that water boiled at 100°C.)
Direct: "I live in Paris," she said. (ja viņa vēl joprojām dzīvo Parīzē)
Reported: She said she lives in Paris. (nav obligāti mainīt uz lived)
Papildu nianses: subjunctive, perfect infinitives, pasīvā forma
Subjunctive un should:
Daži darbības vārdi (insist, suggest, recommend, demand) pieprasa subjunktīvu:
Direct: "I insist that he leave now," she said.
Reported: She insisted (that) he leave at once. (vai: She insisted that he should leave at once.)
Perfekts infinitīvs / pasīvā forma:
Direct: "Someone has stolen my bike," he said.
Reported: He said that his bike had been stolen.
( pasīvā forma bieži tiek izmantota, lai pārtulkotu darbības vārdu netiešajā runā.)
Biežākās kļūdas un kā no tām izvairīties
1. Aizmirst mainīt laika norādes (now, today, tomorrow):
Wrong: He said he will come tomorrow. (ja reporting verb ir pagātnē)
Right: He said he would come the next day.
2. Jautājumu kārtība tiek saglabāta (nepareizi):
Wrong: He asked where did I go.
Right: He asked where I had gone.
3. Pareiza struktūra pavēlēm (to-infinitīvs):
Wrong: He told to me to leave.
Right: He told me to leave. (tell prasa tiešu objektu — told me)
4. Neizpratne par must:
Wrong: He said I must go. (ja runātājs domāja par obligāciju pagātnē)
Right: He said I had to go.

3) Direct: "I have seen that movie." -> Reported: She said (that) she had seen that movie. (Present perfect -> Past perfect)
4) Direct: "I saw him yesterday." -> Reported: She said (that) she had seen him the day before. (Past simple -> Past perfect; yesterday -> the day before)

Reporting verbs diversity:
1) Direct: "You should see a doctor," she said. -> She advised me to see a doctor. / She said that I should see a doctor.

Īss glosārijs (terminu skaidrojums)
Backshift — laiku pārbīde atpakaļ, piemēram, present -> past, will -> would utt.
Reporting verb — darbības vārds, kas ievada netiešo runu (piem., say, tell, ask).
Direct speech — tiešais citāts ar pēdiņām.
Reported/indirect speech — runas pārstāstījums bez pēdiņām.
Subjunctive — darbības vārda forma, ko lieto pēc noteiktiem vārdiem (insist, suggest utt.), piemēram, "He insisted that she leave."
Kopsavilkums un praktiska atmiņas lapa
- Ja ziņošanas darbības vārds ir pagātnē, parasti pārbīdiet laikus vienu soli atpakaļ (present -> past; past -> past perfect; will -> would; can -> could; may -> might).
- Mainiet personu vietniekvārdus un laika vietrādžus (now -> then; today -> that day; tomorrow -> the next day; here -> there utt.).
- Jautājumiem izmantojiet if/whether (yes/no) vai wh- vārdus ar standarta teikuma kārtību.
- Pavēles un lūgumi: tell/order/ask + object + to-infinitive; negatīvā forma: not to + infinitive.
