Mowa zależna (zgodność czasów)
B2Mowa zależna i zgodność czasów (Indirect Speech / Sequence of Tenses)
Sekwencja czasów (zgodność czasów, sequence of tenses) to zbiór reguł określających, jak zmieniać czasy i wyrazy okolicznikowe czasu/miejsca, kiedy przenosimy zdanie z formy bezpośredniej do pośredniej.
Przykład na start
Direct speech: She said, "I am hungry."
Reported speech: She said (that) she was hungry.
Tłumaczenie: Ona powiedziała: „Jestem głodna.” → Powiedziała, że była głodna.
Kiedy przesuwamy czasy?
- Present Simple → Past Simple
- Present Continuous → Past Continuous
- Present Perfect → Past Perfect
- Past Simple → Past Perfect
- will → would
Przykład
Direct: "I live in Madrid," she said.
Reported: She said (that) she lived in Madrid.
He says / He will say → zwykle brak przesunięcia.
- She says, "I am tired." → She says (that) she is tired.
- Gdy mówimy o faktach uniwersalnych lub prawdach zawsze aktualnych (np. scientific facts): "The sun rises in the east." → He said the sun rises in the east.

- could, would, might → zazwyczaj pozostają bez zmian
- Direct: "I would help if I could." → Reported: He said he would help if he could.
Pytania w mowie zależnej
- Używamy if / whether + kolejność jak w zdaniu oznajmującym (bez inwersji).
- Direct: "Are you coming?" → He asked, "Are you coming?"
- Reported: He asked if I was coming.
- Tłumaczenie: "Czy przyjdziesz?" → Zapytał, czy przyjdę.
- Zachowujemy słowo pytające (who, what, where, when, why, how) i stosujemy szyk zdania oznajmującego.
- Direct: "Where do you live?" → He asked, "Where do you live?"
- Reported: He asked where I lived.
Rozkazy, prośby i sugestie
- Direct: "Close the door!" → He said, "Close the door!"
- Reported: He told me to close the door.
- Tłumaczenie: "Zamknij drzwi!" → Kazał mi zamknąć drzwi.
- Negatywy: "Don't be late!" → He told me not to be late.
- Prośby: "Please help me" → She asked me to help her.
- "Let's" → suggested + -ing lub that + should
- Direct: "Let's go to the cinema." → He suggested, "Let's go to the cinema."
- Reported: He suggested going to the cinema. / He suggested that we should go to the cinema.
- now → then
- today → that day
- tonight → that night
- yesterday → the day before / the previous day
- tomorrow → the next day / the following day
- last week → the week before / the previous week
- next week → the following week / the week after
- ago → before
- here → there
Przykład
Direct: "I will come tomorrow," he said.
Reported: He said (that) he would come the next day.
Tłumaczenie: "Przyjdę jutro" → Powiedział, że przyjdzie następnego dnia.
Zdania warunkowe (conditionals) w mowie zależnej
- Zero conditional (fakty ogólne): brak przesunięcia lub zachowanie ogólnych reguł.
- Direct: "If you heat water to 100°C, it boils." → He said (that) if you heat water to 100°C, it boils.
- First conditional (realna przyszłość): przesuń czasy jak zwykle (will → would)
- Direct: "If I pass the exam, I will celebrate."
- Reported: He said that if he passed the exam, he would celebrate.
- Direct: "If I were rich, I would travel the world."
- Reported: He said (that) if he were rich, he would travel the world.
- Third conditional (nierealna przeszłość): Past Perfect i would have — zwykle bez zmian poza dostosowaniem backshift, jeśli potrzeba
- Direct: "If I had known, I would have helped."
- Reported: She said that if she had known, she would have helped.
- Reporting verb w czasie teraźniejszym lub przyszłym → zwykle brak backshift.
- He says, "I'm tired." → He says he is tired.
- BŁĄD: He said "I like it" → He said he likes it. (często lepiej: he said he liked it)
- Niezmiana wyrażeń czasowych (today → that day, yesterday → the day before itp.).
- Zostawienie inwersji w pytaniu:
- BŁĄD: He asked, "Where do you live?" → He asked where do you live. (prawidłowo: He asked where I lived)
- Niewłaściwe użycie modalnych form (np. must → must zamiast had to dla obowiązku).
- Mylenie tell i say: tell zwykle wymaga dopełnienia (tell somebody), say zwykle nie.
- He told me that... / He said (that) ...
- EN: Direct: "I live in Krakow," she said. → Reported: She said (that) she lived in Krakow.
- Reporting verb (czasownik wprowadzający): np. say, tell, ask, reply, promise, warn, suggest.
- Backshift (przesunięcie czasów): cofnięcie czasów w zdaniu zależnym, gdy reporting verb jest w przeszłości.
- Sprawdź reporting verb: jest w present? W past? → jeśli w past → zwykle przesuwaj czasy.
- Zmień czasy zgodnie z regułą (present → past, past → past perfect itp.).
- Zmień wyrazy określające czas i miejsce (now → then, today → that day itd.).
- Usuń inwersję w pytaniach; użyj if/whether dla pytań ogólnych.
Pamiętaj: praktyka z krótkimi zdaniami (najpierw proste przykłady), a potem złożonymi konstrukcjami (pytania, rozkazy, zdania warunkowe) szybko utrwali te reguły.
