Nepriama reč v angličtine: posun časov a zmena perspektívy (pokročilé)

Úvod: čo článok pokrýva
Nepriama reč (reported speech / indirect speech) je spôsob, ako odovzdať niekoho slová bez priameho citovania. Tento článok vysvetlí pokročilé pravidlá: kedy meníme časy (backshifting), ako upravujeme zámená a časové/slovníkové ukazovatele (here/there, now/then), ako sa spracúvajú otázky, príkazy, žiadosti, modálne slovesá, podmienkové vety a časté chyby.
Čo je priama a čo nepriama reč?
Priama reč: reprodukujeme presné slová hovoriaceho v úvodzovkách.
  • Direct: He said, "I am tired."
  • Reported: She said, "I will call you tomorrow."

Nepriama reč: parafrázujeme bez úvodzoviek. V angličtine zvyčajne upravíme slovosled, časy, zámená a časové výrazy.
- Direct: "I am tired," he said.
- Reported: He said (that) he was tired. (He said he would call me the next day.)

Keď meníme časy: základné pravidlo (backshifting)</b]
Hlavné pravidlo: ak hlásacie sloveso (reporting verb) je v minulom čase (napr. said, told, asked), zvyčajne posunieme časy v hlásenej vete o jeden stupeň späť (backshift).

Hlavné presuny časov a príklady
- Present Simple -> Past Simple
Direct: "I live in London," she said.
Reported: She said (that) she lived in London.
Preklad: Povedala, že býva v Londýne.

- Present Continuous -> Past Continuous
Direct: "I am studying now," he said.
Reported: He said he was studying then.
Preklad: Povedal, že sa práve učí.

- Present Perfect -> Past Perfect
Direct: "I have finished my homework," she said.
Reported: She said she had finished her homework.
Preklad: Povedala, že dokončila domácu úlohu.

- Present Perfect Continuous -> Past Perfect Continuous
Direct: "I have been waiting for an hour," he said.
Reported: He said he had been waiting for an hour.
Preklad: Povedal, že čakal hodinu.

- Past Simple -> Past Perfect
Direct: "I saw the movie yesterday," he said.
Reported: He said he had seen the movie the day before.
Preklad: Povedal, že videl film deň predtým.

- Past Continuous -> Past Perfect Continuous
Direct: "I was working when she called," he said.
Reported: He said he had been working when she called.
Preklad: Povedal, že pracoval, keď jej zavolala.

- Past Perfect -> zvyčajne sa nemení
Direct: "I had already left," she said.
Reported: She said she had already left.
Preklad: Povedala, že už odišla.

- Will -> Would
Direct: "I will help you," she said.
Reported: She said she would help me.
Preklad: Povedala, že mi pomôže.

- Be going to -> Was/Were going to
Direct: "I am going to visit them tomorrow," he said.
Reported: He said he was going to visit them the next day.
Preklad: Povedal, že ich navštívi nasledujúci deň.

Modálne slovesá (základné premene)</b]

  • can -> could: "I can swim." -> He said he could swim.

  • may -> might: "I may come." -> He said he might come.

  • shall -> should (v niektorých formách): "I shall return." -> He said he should return.

  • must (povinnosť) -> had to: "I must finish this." -> He said he had to finish it.

  • will -> would: už spomenuté.

  • should/ought to/might/could -> často zostávajú rovnaké alebo sa meniť nemusia.

Poznámka k must: ak ide o dedukciu (He must be tired = musieť) často zostáva must, lebo nemá jednoduchú minulú formu: "She must be at home," he said. -> He said she must be at home. Ak ide o povinnosť, použijeme had to: "I must go" -> He said he had to go.

Ako tvoriť nepriame tvrdenia: základná štruktúra
  • say: Subject + say (that) + clause
He said (that) he was tired.
  • tell: Subject + tell + object + (that) + clause
She told me (that) she was late.
  • ask: Subject + ask + object + if/whether + clause
He asked me if I wanted coffee.

Všimnite si: u slovesa say sa objekt často vynecháva; tell vyžaduje objekt (tell someone).

Otázky v nepriamej reči
Otázky meníme do oznamovacej slovoslednej vety (statement order). Ak ide o otázku typu yes/no, použijeme if/whether.

Yes/No otázky
- Direct: "Do you like coffee?" -> She asked, "Do you like coffee?"
Reported: She asked if I liked coffee. (NOT: She asked if do I like coffee.)
Preklad: Spýtala sa, či mám rád kávu.

- Direct: "Will you come tomorrow?" -> He asked, "Will you come tomorrow?"
Reported: He asked if/whether I would come the next day.
Preklad: Spýtal sa, či prídem nasledujúci deň.

Wh- otázky
- Direct: "Where do you live?" -> He asked, "Where do you live?"
Reported: He asked where I lived.
Preklad: Spýtal sa, kde bývam.

- Direct: "Why didn't you call?" -> She asked, "Why didn't you call?"
Reported: She asked why I hadn't called.
Preklad: Opýtala sa, prečo som nevolal.

Polite requests phr. ako otázky
- Direct: "Could you open the window, please?"
Reported (question form): He asked if I could open the window.
Reported (request form): He asked me to open the window.

Príkazy, žiadosti a návrhy (imperatív, request, suggestion)
Príkazy (imperatives) a žiadosti zvyčajne premeníme na to-infinitív:
  • Direct: "Close the door!" -> He told me to close the door.
Preklad: Povedal mi, aby som zavrel dvere.

- Direct: "Don't be late!" -> He told us not to be late.
Preklad: Povedal nám, aby sme neprišli neskoro.

- Direct: "Please help me." -> She asked me to help her / She begged me to help her.
Preklad: Požiadala ma, aby som jej pomohol.

Návrhy:
- Direct: "Let's go to the cinema." -> He suggested (that) we go to the cinema. / He suggested going to the cinema.
Preklad: Navrhol, aby sme išli do kina.

Zámená, ukazovacie výrazy a časové údaje (zmena perspektívy)

- I -> he / she / they
- we -> they / we (závisí od toho, kto hlási)
- you -> I / he / she / them (závisí od toho, kto bol oslovený)
- my -> his / her / their
- our -> their
- this -> that
- these -> those
- here -> there
- now -> then
- today -> that day
- tomorrow -> the next day / the following day
- yesterday -> the day before / the previous day
- last night/week -> the night/week before / the previous night/week
- ago -> before

Príklady:
- Direct: "I will meet you here tomorrow," she said to me.
Reported: She said she would meet me there the next day.
Preklad: Povedala, že sa so mnou zajtra stretne tam.

- Direct: "These are my keys," he said.
Reported: He said those were his keys.

Ak niekto hovorí "I will help you" priamo osobe A, tá osoba pri hlásení použi "he said he would help me" (ak A hlási), ale iný pozorovateľ použije "he said he would help her".

Podmienkové vety (conditionals) v nepriamej reči
  • First conditional (realná budúcnosť): posun -> present -> past, will -> would.
Direct: "If it rains, I will stay at home." Reported: He said that if it rained, he would stay at home. Preklad: Povedal, že ak bude pršať, zostane doma. (v nepriamej forme: "ak by pršalo, zostal by doma")

- Second conditional (nereálna prítomnosť): často zostáva rovnaká, lebo jeden stupeň už vyjadruje nereálnosť.
Direct: "If I were rich, I would travel more."
Reported: He said that if he were rich, he would travel more. (alebo He said he would travel more if he were rich.)

Direct: "If I had known, I would have told you."
Reported: He said that if he had known, he would have told me.
Preklad: Povedal, že keby vedel, povedal by mi to.

Poznámka: Subjunktívne formy ako "If I were..." sa často nemenia.

Modálne slovesá a ich nuansy (advanced)</b]
  • can -> could
"I can do it," -> He said he could do it.
  • may -> might (často)
"I may come," -> He said he might come.
  • will -> would
"I will try," -> He said he would try.
  • must: rozdiel podľa významu
  • povinnosť: "I must go" -> He said he had to go.
  • dedukcia (epistemic): "She must be at home" -> He said she must be at home. (často zostáva must)
  • have to -> had to
"I have to leave now" -> She said she had to leave then.
  • should / ought to -> často bez zmeny
"You should see a doctor" -> He said I should see a doctor.

Doplňujúci príklad k must (nuansa):
- Direct (povinnosť): "I must finish this report." -> Reported: He said he had to finish the report.
- Direct (dedukcia): "She must be angry." -> Reported: He said she must be angry. (alebo He thought she must be angry.)

Pasívne vety a nepriama reč
  • Direct: "They arrested me yesterday," he said.
Reported: He said he had been arrested the day before. Preklad: Povedal, že ho zatkli deň predtým.
Viacnásobné/nested hlásenia (reporting within reporting)</b]
  • Direct (príklad): John said, "Mary told me, 'I will finish the work tomorrow.'"
Reported: John said Mary had told him she would finish the work the next day.

  • Reporting verb v prítomnom čase (says, says that, is saying): neposúvame časy.
Direct: "I live in Rome," she says. -> Reported: She says (that) she lives in Rome.

- Ak výrok zostáva pravdivý (fakty, univerzálne pravdy): môžeme vynechať posun časov.
Direct: "The Earth orbits the Sun," he said.
Reported: He said the Earth orbits the Sun. (alebo He said the Earth orbited the Sun.)

Direct: "I am allergic to nuts," she said.
Reported: She said she is allergic to nuts. (ak to stále platí)

  • Nezmeniť zámená: Direct: "I will help you," he said. Nesprávne: He said I will help you. Správne: He said he would help me.
  • Nie zmeniť now -> then, here -> there, today -> that day atď.
  • Použiť otázkový slovosled v nepriamej otázke: Nesprávne: He asked where did I live. Správne: He asked where I lived.
  • Zabudnúť na to-infinitív pri prikazoch/žiadosťach: "Close the door!" -> Správne: He told me to close the door. Nesprávne: He told me that I close the door.
  • Zameniť say a tell: say často bez objektu, tell vyžaduje objekt.
Rýchla pomôcka — príklady pre rýchle opakovanie
  • "I live in Prague" -> He said he lived in Prague. (present -> past)
  • "I have lost my keys" -> She said she had lost her keys. (present perfect -> past perfect)
  • "I will be late" -> He said he would be late. (will -> would)
  • "Can you help me?" -> She asked if I could help her. / She asked me to help her.
  • "Don't smoke!" -> He told him not to smoke.
  • "I must leave now" (povinnosť) -> She said she had to leave then.
Krátky slovník (glossary)</b]
  • Priama reč (Direct speech): citovanie slov hovoriaceho s úvodzovkami.
  • Nepriama reč (Reported/Indirect speech): parafrázovanie slov bez úvodzoviek, často s úpravou časov a zámen.
  • Reporting verb (hlásacie sloveso): sloveso, ktoré uvádza nepriame hlásenie (say, tell, ask, explain, promise ...).
  • Backshifting (posun časov): posun časov (present -> past, past -> past perfect) pri hlásení v minulom čase.
  • Deiktické výrazy: slová odkazujúce na miesto/čas (here/there, now/then), ktoré sa pri hlásení menia.
Záver — kľúčové pravidlá na zapamätanie
  • Ak je reporting verb v minulom čase, zväčša posuňte čas slovesa v hlásenej vete (backshift).
  • Zmente zámená a deiktické výrazy podľa perspektívy osoby, ktorá hlási.
  • Otázky zmeňte na oznamovaciu vetu (yes/no -> if/whether; wh- ponechajte) a používajte statement word order.
  • Príkazy a žiadosti často preveďte na to-infinitív (told/asked + object + to-infinitive).
  • Niektoré výnimky: reporting verb v prítomnom čase, všeobecné pravdy, prípady, kde je pôvodný výrok stále pravdivý.

Ak chcete, môžem pripraviť stručné zhrnutie vo forme tabuľky (mapping časov), alebo poslať viac príkladov z konkrétnej oblasti (otázky, právnický štýl, žiadosti), podľa toho, čo potrebujete precvičiť.
